New Delhi: Clashes have been reported between fans of Afghanistan and Pakistan after the latter won the Asian Cup 2022 cricket match underway in Sharjah on Wednesday.

Pakistan’s decades-old misadventures in Afghanistan are believed to be the root of the rivalry between the two nations.

Mohsin Dawar, Member of the National Assembly for North Waziristan in Pakistan, tweeted: “Using a cricket match as an excuse to hurl racial slurs at Afghans is maximum brazenness. Pakistan’s decades-old policy of strategic depth and interventionist misadventures in Afghanistan explain why Afghans have a problem with Pakistan. Introspect yourself before putting the Afghans down.

Afghan fans reportedly started damaging the cricket stadium and could not control their emotions and expressed their anger by beating Pakistani fans in the stadium.

Shortly after videos of the clashes went viral on social media, people were divided in their support for the parties.

Pakistani journalist Hamza Azhar Salam wondered if Sharjah police would identify Afghan fans who “beat” Pakistani fans.

“Can @ShjPolice identify Afghan fans mercilessly beating Pakistani fans on the streets of Sharjah? Salam tweeted sharing a video of the clash.

All the developments came after Pakistani hitter Naseem Shah’s two straight sixes in the first two serves of the final on a brilliant bowling nullified by Afghanistan throughout the innings, which secured a one-stop victory for Pakistan in a thrilling Super Four clash at the Asian Cup 2022 underway on Wednesday.

Afghanistan was shown the way out after posting just 129/6 on the board. However, they almost made up their minds for a win, but Naseem’s two sixes in the final over sealed a win for Pakistan.

Meanwhile, violence broke out on August 28 in Leicester in the UK after India won the match against Pakistan in the 2022 Asian Cup.

Various videos and reports have circulated on social media about further attacks following the incident last weekend.
